START SMALL

Countertop gardens.
Small space, real choices.

For herbs used a few leaves at a time, a countertop system may be a more manageable starting point than a floor-standing tower. Compare the growing method and the clearances before buying on pod count.

How to read this guide

We compare dated manufacturer information and show our calculations. We have not physically tested these systems. Merchant links are ordinary links; no affiliate account or paid ranking is implied.

Which countertop garden belongs on your shortlist?

Start with a pumped hydroponic model such as LetPot or Personal Rise if managing a nutrient-water system is part of the growing routine you want. Include Click & Grow when you want to compare that approach with passive-watering pods. Its different method is a reason to compare it explicitly, rather than quietly treating the products as identical.

Use three passes: eliminate models that do not fit below your cabinets; compare the configuration actually included; then budget the supplies you intend to buy. A low appliance price can be outweighed by your replacement basket. A large tray can be unnecessary if you only want herbs for occasional cooking.

For two finalists, open each model in the directory, add it to the comparison, then use the budget tool. Unknown energy consumption should remain unresolved until you have a manufacturer estimate or a measurement.

Two routes to a kitchen garden.

A passive pod garden bundles a growing medium into the planting pod. A pumped hydroponic system gives you a different set of tasks involving water and nutrients. Neither route automatically produces better food or lower costs.

Click & Grow’s listed Smart Garden models use passive watering. LetPot and Rise are shown separately as hydroponic options. The directory labels the method rather than calling every countertop device the same kind of system.

Will the lid, light and mature plant fit?

Manufacturer appliance dimensions, not extra cleaning or foliage clearance.
ModelWidth × depthListed height
Smart Garden 3300 × 120 mm210–470 mm
Smart Garden 9604 × 184 mm396 mm
Personal Rise Garden22 × 10 inches18 inches

Measure the empty space below a wall cabinet, then check how the light and plants will occupy it. Leave a route to refill the reservoir and remove parts. Keep the manufacturer’s unit system when measuring, or convert it carefully; inches and millimetres are not interchangeable.

Compare the tray in the box.

Personal Rise Garden is listed here with eight sites in its standard tray. The manufacturer also describes a 12-site option for smaller plants. We do not attach that upgrade capacity to the base configuration without qualification.

The same rule applies when a product page shows multiple versions. Confirm the colour, adapter, single-unit bundle and any optional tray before treating a sale price as your quote.

Pod spending can outlast the appliance decision.

Ask which supplies are included, which are replaced, and what you can buy separately. Model replacement costs as your intended basket, not a universal yearly estimate. For example, 12 replacement pods at an assumed $5 each is a $60 allowance; that arithmetic says nothing about the current merchant price or how often you will replace them.

Enter only replacement spending beyond any included supplies or credits. A $0 membership field means you chose no paid plan, not that every seed, nutrient or pod is free. If you do not know the recurring costs yet, leave them blank and keep the budget incomplete.

Sources and what remains unknown.

Product specifications and advertised prices were checked on October 17, 2026. Prices and packages can change. Monthly energy values are manufacturer estimates, not measurements by Indoor Garden Scout. Where facts are unknown, we leave them unknown.

Calculations are our own arithmetic from the stated inputs. Hypothetical examples are labelled and exclude unentered costs, time and harvest value. Check the exact order, current policies and care instructions before buying.
