Less guessing.
A plan you can write on.
- Check capacity before sowing. Separate your nursery from the main garden and see whether a weekly target fits.
- Keep the next batch visible. Record 12 sowings, transplant dates and estimated harvest checks.
- Replace assumptions with results. Track actual heads harvested and adjust the next rotation.

For a small lettuce rotation.
With clear limits.
This is for home growers planning whole-head lettuce in usable growing positions, with an optional separate nursery. It is not a model-specific setup manual, a construction plan, a nutrient recipe or a calculator for tomatoes, microgreens or repeated leaf picking.
No seeds, equipment, personal consultation or guaranteed harvest is included. Growing times and success rates are editable assumptions. The pack has not been independently horticulturist-reviewed or validated in a growing trial.
The public references are UF/IFAS Extension and University of Minnesota Extension. Worksheets and planning arithmetic are Scout’s own. No institutional endorsement is implied.
INFORMED BY GROWER QUESTIONS
Plan for meals.
Keep track of reality.
We reviewed eight public Reddit discussions to find questions the workbook should answer. These accounts disagree and are not representative yield data. They informed new worksheets, not guaranteed growing instructions.
Will this give me a daily salad?
Some owners report plenty of greens; others describe smaller harvests than expected. The new salad-baseline sheet helps you measure your own meal size and actual harvested weight. No fixed grams-per-salad assumption.
Owner reports: daily-salad expectations · positive and surplus experiences.
Should I pick leaves or harvest whole plants?
Both approaches appear in the discussions. The workbook records which you use, and keeps leaf picking separate from the whole-head calculator: a plant left growing still occupies its space.
Read the harvest-method question, the conflicting grower experiences, and our extension-sourced harvesting guide.
What if the next batch is late or older plants decline?
The new gap worksheet records seedling readiness, available positions and the next check-in. Revisit your observed timing rather than assuming every plant will match a calendar. No universal replacement interval or forum treatment recipe is prescribed.
Discussions: bolting and replacement questions · a slow-growing batch.
What about the work between harvests?
The weekly sheet now records maintenance time and prompts an absence check against your device instructions. The plan is useful only if its routine suits you.
Owner account: a difficult restart after time away. Individual experience, not a product reliability finding.
